FABRICLAND AND NASSAUS WINDOW FASHIONS PROVIDE EVERY STYLE TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL WINDOWS
Windows are the transition between the indoors and outdoors, ushering light and air inside. They are a means of extending our views beyond the parameters of our walls while providing privacy and security. And now, more than ever, the well-dressed window is a focal point that creates a certain design statement throughout the home.
According to Bruce Heyman, president of the Window Coverings Association of America (WCAA) and owner of Fabricland of North Plainfield and Nassaus Window Fashions of Paramus, the world of window treatments has undergone dramatic change and diversification.
"Technological advances and an abundance of beautiful styles have elevated the treatment of windows to an art," cites Heyman, "and now, more than ever, the key to creating a great look is versatility. Today, it's not unusual to combine a 'soft' treatment such as a drapery, swag, valance or window scarf with a 'hard' shade, shutter or blind. In some cases, each can stand alone, but in most designs, the "layering" effect creates more interest and looks beautiful. We really showcase every imaginable style of window treatments throughout our stores," continues Heyman. "and whether you're a 'do-it-yourself' sewer, a customer who seeks ready-made products or a shopper who wants custom creations, you'll always see the very latest designs in our displays."
As for window decorating trends, Heyman believes that a more "formal attire" is the most popular. "Our decorators are seeing a return to classic 'dressy' elegance with many beautiful styles including luxurious top treatments like swags, jabots and cascaded valances intricately layered over draperies and shades, very formal Austrian shirred curtains, richly upholstered cornices with lots of trims and tassels -- ornate, decorative styles that reflect an "old world" bygone era. Colors that dominate are a range of reds, golds, camels and sage green -- European "Tuscany" shades that are earthy and rich. The biggest news in fabrics for windows is silk. " Silk always lends an air of luxury," cites Heyman, " but the silks we carry are not the ones you remember from your grandmother's 'don't go in there' living room. They are easy-care fabrics that range from big ballroom stripes and bold plaids to beautiful textured shantung, dupioni and taffeta silk. Details such as trimmings and tassels also add to the finished design, as well, with color-coordinated beading, feather, fringe, rope, braid and cording."
