HOME DECORATING AND SEWING PROGRAMS
HIGHLIGHT FABRICLAND'S CALENDAR OF EVENTS
For many years Fabricland, located at 855 Route 22 West in North Plainfield, has been presenting free in-store programs, demonstrations and workshops for its customers that serve to educate and entertain. This coming fall, the tradition continues with a series of interesting events -- beginning on Thursday, September 12 with a demonstration on "How to Make a 'No Sew' Window Scarf". The program, which will be presented by Ginny Davey, manager of the decorator fabrics department, will be held at 10 a.m. and repeated again At 7 p.m. Ms. Davey will show the step-by-step technique for making this elegant window treatment using in-stock fabrics, trimmings, fusible iron-on tape and fabric glue.
On Thursday evening, September 19 at 7 p.m., Lisa Shepard, author, designer and columnist for the Star Ledger, will present "Decorating with Fabrics from Around the World" based on her new book, "Global Expressions". Lisa will demonstrate how to make easy home decorating projects such as placemats, napkins, wall hangings, lampshades, trinket boxes and more using unique colorful fabrics from all corners of the globe.
Since September is "Sewing Awareness Month", Fabricland has planned a number of events geared for women who sew and would like to learn more about the craft. On Saturday, September 21, the store will preview its new Bernina Artista 200E - the world's first sewing and embroidery computer. Along with sewing machine department manager Amanda Uhrlass, rpresentatives from Bernina USA will be in Fabricland from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. to give free "hands-on" demonstrations on these new high-tech machines that are Microsoft Window Powered. Stop in and see the unbelievable fashions and home decorative projects you can create and you'll understand why the sewing world will never be the same with the introduction of this amazing sewing and embroidery "system".
A Fall Fashion Show for the Full-Figured Woman will be staged at Fabricland on Thursday evening, September 26 at 7 p.m. Coordinated with the Simplicity Pattern Company and featuring real models wearing garments sized 18 to 32 on the runway, the show will offer tips and solutions to pattern fit, alterations, fabric selections and more. Bonnie Simmons, a designer with Simplicity Pattern Company, will be there to lend her expertise.
And on Saturday, September 28, Chris Gonch, a dressmaker and educator, will offer her free "Sew Help" session to anyone who needs help with a sewing project. From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Chris is on hand in the dress fabrics department to help shoppers with pattern, fabric and notion selection, as well as tips on sewing and finishing the garment. All of Fabricland's events are free and open to the public. Except for Sew Help, registration is not required.
